The "Active Communities" Project

The purpose of the project entitled "Active Communities" is to strengthen the emerging community foundations and coalitions willing to become institution of such type. We want to achieve this goal through individual consultations and advisory assistance, provided by outstanding experts.

Experts cooperating with the Academy, on the basis of individual meetings and consultations, together with leaders and partners of the emerging community foundations, prepare an analysis of the local NGOs` needs. Moreover, in cooperation with each organization and the Academy, one-year action plans covering various activities serving the strengthening of the organizations shall be drafted.

As a result of the project, new community foundations shall undergo individual evaluation focusing on its development. Moreover, they will be provided with a one-year strategy serving the strengthening, building basis of sustainability, as well as building social confidence.

The "Active Communities" project was first implemented in November 2004 and will last till February 2005. It is financed by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives. The project has also received support from the St. Batory Foundation and the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe within the framework of the "Third sector" program.
