Folklore group Wronowianki is an informal group created in 1987 in Wronow. In order to preserve the memory of its own roots, the group based its repertoire on songs as remembered by the eldest residents. Today the group comprises 26 individuals from three generations aged 7 to 68. Wronowianki were able to enliven the life of their community. Thanks to their ideas and persistence, a cultural club in the fire brigade's office was renovated and enlarged. A pond with a bridge, and a soccer field was built. The group organizes yearly meetings and events, such as the end of the harvest season, St. Andrew's party, the New Year's Eve party, May picnics. On a voluntary basis, the ladies organize courses for children during summer and winter vacations.
In the Social Assistance Home in Janow Lubelski in 1998, an artistic group "Echo Jesieni" [The Fall's Echo] was founded, grouping some 20 senior residents of the establishment. The group sings at daily masses for pensioners, prepares music programs for church festivities. Senior citizens prepare puppet shows, designing puppets and having one of the disabled group members design the dolls' clothing. Shows and concert are staged for other residents, the establishment and invited guests, as well as for local nurseries and a hospice. The Echo Jesieni group helped many senior citizens learn to accept their new home. It gave seniors a chance to creatively develop their artistic talent in their free time.
Seniors Club Srebrny Wlos at the Municipal Culture Center in Rypin for 18 years has organized a review of the work of senior citizens - the Gathering of Seniors Clubs Art Groups. The event takes place in the summer in a nearby leisure center. Some 30 seniors clubs from the entire voivodeship take part in the event every year. For four days, shows take place from dawn till dusk. Groups prepare their shows with songs, theater pieces and dance. In the evenings, participants gather near a bonfire for dances and other attractions. An important element of the event is a workshop with music instructors, during which each show receives a review.
Knyszyn Culture Center, starting in 1996, has organized a workshop on regional embroidery and lace production. 691 works by 49 seniors were shown during the first exhibition. Every year professional embroidery workshop is organized, drawing the attention of artists to regional embroidery. A group was created comprising some 70 women who do embroidery and lacing. In 2002, Folklore Embroidery Fairs were organized in Białystok, during which artists could exchange their experiences, while organizers of rural vacation stay and traders could see the work and contact the artists. Some of the ladies started to sell their creations, also abroad. Seniors taking part in the competitions improved the quality of and satisfaction from their lives.
The Communal Culture Center in Jedwabno has a Seniors Club, which for the past three years has organized the Potato and Cabbage Festival. The event goes on for one day and is open for all residents. Every year some 200 individuals take part in it, with the meeting being an excellent opportunity to refresh the traditions of the region. In 2002 the event focused on the preparation of sauerkraut. Under the supervision of seniors, volunteers cut the cabbage and carrots, and later mixed it barefoot in barrels. Folklore group shows accompany the food presentation. The chief point of the program is the tasting of traditional dishes prepared with potatoes and cabbage by 30 seniors and other participants. At least 50 different dishes are prepared every year, and those interested can request recipes for the most tasty dishes.
