The Seniors Club in Biskupice Radlowskie was founded in 1990 and currently comprises 30 members. All age groups benefit from the club's work. Seniors organize sewing workshops, lectures on healthy nutrition and herb medicine for the entire community. Every year in the Rural Culture Center members of the club organize an event called Oplatek [Christmas bread], with some 100-150 residents participating. In 1991, the Seniors Club was a co-organizer of the event to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the village's foundation, and prepared the show under the title "The Baptizing of the Village." One of the most interesting projects of the Seniors Club is the Kraków Wedding show, reconstructing the actual regional wedding customs. The show was based on the old traditions and songs.
The Seniors Club Zlota Strzecha in Barlinek initiated contacts with the German town of Schwedt and its senior citizens. As a result of the cooperation, the Senior Years without Borders event was organized in June and July 2002. For three days in Barlinek, some 150 individuals, including 20 foreign guests, held an integration meeting. Trips to nearby towns were organized, as well as a picnic with competitions, dances and singing. The club is still in contact with the seniors of Schwedt. As the result of this project, the club became more widely known and attracted 50 new members.
The Social Assistance Center in Pniewy opened in 1992 a Day-Care Seniors Home, and a year later a senior citizens house under the name Jutrzenka [Morning Star]. The Day-Care Seniors Home offers a variety of cultural and education activities which stimulate the development of the seniors' talents. There are celebrations, dance events, trips, pilgrimages and health lectures. Senior citizens can also take part in the workshop therapy and develop their artistic talents in seniors cabaret group Wagabunda [Vagabond] and the Wrzos [Heather] choir.
The Jutrzenka house is a facility designed for seniors who do not require full-time care. It works as a commune-run building customized for the needs of senior citizens. There are 17 apartments which can house 21 people. There are also shared areas such as a dining room or a hobby room. Hairdresser and beauty parlor are available.
The Razem [Together] Charity Association in Zelow created in late 2000 a Senior Citizens Activity Center in a former school building in Walewice. The workshops run by the center should stimulate the activity of senior citizens form nearby rural areas. The running of programs is in the hands of other organizations and institutions after they win a grant competition. Among the activities organized are Christmas meetings for seniors, exhibitions of old photographs and memorabilia, workshops on handcraft, music meetings. Nurses visit those senior citizens who live alone.
The Social Services Center NOA in Szczecinek in March 2002 started the program AS Seniors Activation, authored by the Samaritanus Foundation. The center opened two Active Seniors Clubs, using the space of two of its senior citizens houses. The group of some 30 seniors regularly attends the activities which they first plan and organize. Instructors, who are employed by the center, only play the role of supporters who encourage the seniors. During the club activities, such as gymnastics, cooking or art workshops, the seniors have a chance to discover and develop their interests. A self-help group was also created, the members of which can rely on mutual help (sewing, house appliance repair, shopping for the ill).
The Social Assistance Center of the Zoliborz Borough in Warsaw started in 1998 the AS Seniors Activation program, authored by the Samaritanus foundation. Four AS clubs were founded, where seniors meet in a friendly and warm atmosphere (they exercise, sing, dance, paint and even run an amateur cabaret). The clubs also organize trips and spa vacations. The center opened an Information Cafe for Seniors Kominek [Fireplace], open six days a week. The cafe is run by 10 senior volunteers. It is a meeting place and an information point where seniors can seek free-of-charge legal advice.
